TGSL recently joined Open GI and we are looking for a Product Owner to join our team based in Winchester as we move into the next exciting phase of our development. 

We are looking for a Product Owner to be responsible for the management of the product backlog, which details product requirements specific to feature areas of the company’s software. The role is to take responsibility for gathering and communicating with clients about these requirements, prioritising items according to business value, and ensuring quality output from the scrum team – by efficiently refining the backlog.

Based in our Winchester offices you will be accountable for the direction and functionality of the features within the product, under the direction of the Head of Development, and in collaboration with the other Product Owners.

 Your role will involve:

  • Managing a product backlog for a dedicated feature area, for example, website and web API development, using Visual Studio Team Services (VSTS).
  • Gathering client requirements, using Agile techniques such as story mapping and affinity sizing, and creating user stories to be included in the product backlog.
  • Negotiating priorities with stakeholders to ensure that high value deliverables are identified and progressed to a high level of quality.
  • Working closely with the scrum team to refine backlog items and plan individual sprints.
  • Working closely with the scrum master to ensure all impediments are identified, recorded and removed.
  • Providing progress and status updates to stakeholders, in particular Clients, Sponsors and Project Managers.
  • Manage end of sprint demos to clients and record / react to feedback received.
  • Participation in sprint retrospectives in order to inspect and adapt for the future.
  • Contribute to the development, documentation, and maintenance of departmental procedures required to promote efficient running and maintain the expected level of quality within the department.
  • Complete the timesheets in the Time Management System in a timely and detailed manner.
  • Training and mentoring colleagues when required
  • Any other tasks as from time to time may be required to support the Head of Development.

 

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

Essential

  • A thorough understanding of the fundamental principles behind Agile approaches.
  • Ability to reference broad experience of successful Agile project delivery.
  • Ability to represent the company in a positive and professional manner when interfacing with customers.
  • Ability to express oneself clearly and accurately in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Strives to continuously develop and improve own skills and knowledge.
  • Results driven, organised and efficient with a ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Ability to adapt to change with a genuine interest in improving processes and driving up quality.
  • In depth knowledge of Agile frameworks.
  • Understanding Agile approaches to architecture.
  • Experience of working in an Agile environment, preferably within an IT software house.
  • Previous experience of working with web solutions.
  • An excellent understanding of the software product lifecycle.
  • Experience of working on software project teams.
  • Experience of gathering customer requirements.
  • English – spoken to a fluent or high level.

 

Desirable

  • Certified Scrum Professional recognition from the Scrum Alliance is desirable
  • Previous experience of working within the insurance industry.
  • Working knowledge of Visual Studio Team Services (VSTS) and a supporting ticketing platform such as Zendesk.
